Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr (Book Review by Mohit)
π Cloud Cuckoo Land shifts between Five characters—Konstance, Zeno, Seymour, Anna, and Omeir.
π Konstance, who has spent her entire life on a spaceship named The Argos, encounters some difficulties many years in the future.
π Zeno and Seymour, who are from Idaho, are struggling with life's losses in the present.
π In the year 1400, Anna and Omeir are engaged in combat in Constantinople.
π This book is undoubtedly fascinating. This book is a jumbled mess throughout, especially at first. Non-linear timeframes and five different individuals are alternated in Cloud Cuckoo Land.
π After reading about a character's life up to that point, the story may then transfer to another character's life at the beginning of a new era. I'm not unfamiliar with multiple points of view, but usually there are no more than three. There are 5 different people in this book. And then add fluctuating timelines on top of that. If I had been the editor, I would have organised the book according to time. I frequently thought, "Wow, this is just getting very intriguing," before the screen switched to the next character. I think it would have been preferable to just focus on one character at a time.
π The beginning of the book was so disorganised that it seemed more like a collection of short stories.
π The chapters in the books that dealt with Konstance, Zeno, and Seymour were my favourites. I wasn't too interested in the passages about Anna and Omeir, and it seemed like it was being forced on the reader. Despite having 600 pages, this book kept my interest for the majority of the time. According to my philosophy, regardless of the genre, if the writing is strong, I will read anything. This novel, however, had excellent storytelling throughout.
